Client specific rules: Week 9

  1. ALWAYS KEEP RULE 1.5 IN MIND AS TO FEES. Your fees must be reasonable. This means your rates must be reasonable and the amount in total that you charge must be reasonable. Again, reasonableness changes depending upon the circumstances of the case. The factors which go into that determination are in Rule 1.5: read them. If you want to change you rates, you must give notice. If your initial budget estimate is blown, tell the client and give them a new assessment of where the fees will be. Bill as often as you said you would in the fee agreement. If you have a retainer, bill them and give them an accounting of what has been credited against that retainer. And don’t take the money until you have earned it. The retainer is not yours until you have earned it.
